Exclusive Interview: Shan Meets Mekhi Phifer and Maggie Q at Divergent Premiere

Divergent, a movie trilogy based on the novels by Veronica Roth, follows Beatrice, played by Shailene Woodley, as she and other-16 year-olds take the required test to figure out what faction of dystopian Chicago (in the future) they belong to based on their personality types. The city is divided into five parts: Candor for the honest, Erudite for the intelligent, Abnegation for the selfless, Amity for the harmonious, and Dauntless for the brave.

When Beatrice takes the test, however, her results are inconclusive—she is a divergent, or, she shows equal part belonging to Dauntless, Erudite, and Abnegation.

The Morning Show’s Shan Berries met Mekhi Phifer, who plays Max, a leader of the Dauntless faction, and Maggie Q, who plays Tori, the woman who administers Beatrice’s test (and tries to keep her Divergent status a secret).
